Review on ๐Ÿฅœ Progressive Prepworks Nut Chopper with Non-Skid Base by Vettee Welch

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Worked great for 6 months then cracked/broken base thread cap

Performance: 4 stars for grind quality, dropping to 1 star for breakage after 6 months Value: 1 Durability: 1 Design: 4 Has 6 worked great for months. Then the tip of the base screw snapped and about 1/3 of the diameter of the tip broke off. When it worked, the grinder produced a reasonable mix of crushed walnut chunks and some crushed walnuts that you get no matter what you use to grind. started to crack. Luckily, I found the cracks before they hit the ground nuts and carefully removed the impacted plastic. Another 4 months of careful sanding and looking for additional damage after each use and now at least half of the bottom of the receiver has cracked and I have had to remove the damaged parts again to make sure they don't fall into the receiver. So if you expect a 6 month lifespan from this grinder, you'll probably be fine. Since I plan to eat ground nuts for over 6 months, this model is already in the trash and I'm looking for the best nut grinder/chopper. If it hadn't broke so early/easily and lasted a few more years. I would give 5 stars. Hell, I would even pay more to get the performance out of it. But I'd rather buy a stronger and more expensive model than change it every 6 months. Also note that I have never overused the grinder and have not crushed anything other than walnuts, which are easily crushed between two fingers. As such, I do not feel responsible for improving this grinder or setting unreasonable expectations of it. It may have been defective from day one. I'm just not inclined to buy another to find out. At $10 I don't have high hopes for a kitchen tool either. My 1 star rating is simply based on performance, not value for money. Updated: 12/18/16. I replaced the Prepworks grinder with a Revain PL8 nut grinder. Very impressed with this including the following features: 1. The clear base is made from a much thicker clear material which is impact resistant so I shouldn't have the breakage that doomed this Prepworks model.2. The top of the PL8 grinder fits most standard wide-mouth jars, making it easy to grind and store large quantities of ground nuts. After chopping in the stein, simply put on the screw cap and you're done! The top with chopper blades has a rubber ring that fits better on the base or stone jug.4. The cost is $20, so it's good value considering you'll never break the base the way I broke Prepworks.

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
