Just installed this in my remote cabin to bring pond water to the back porch. Installation was easy and I installed a 1 inch water line with a bottom valve at the end of the pond. (I didn't bother with the math and took a chance it would work.) I soaked the pump the day before installing it to keep the skin nice and moist. It works fantastic! I don't know why I didn't do it. I haven't done that in a while. Topping it up was a breeze, although a week later when I wanted to pump it again I had to pour a few gallons into the pump to get it full again (but not like a full fill). I'm going to install a check valve next to the pump to fix this, although it's fine if I don't. So far I am very satisfied and will report if there are any problems in the future. .
