My garage needs 5/16" but I have one Ordered stock deal and received size 1/4". I discovered this after removing the old oil seal. Lesson #1: Measure the width of the seal upon receipt and before you start taking things apart. As well as the size (Photo #1) You can immediately see the difference, but not so much if you only have one or the other. After getting the correct seal (and measuring 3 times), I decided to clamp a vise on one side use to hold up the door (photo #2) and then on the opposite side I unscrewed the latch that connects to the cable (photo #3) Before doing this you will need a second S use a vise, which you can put on the torsion bar (goes the full length of the garage to the torsion bar springs in the middle) and clamp it to keep it from spinning, you also need to keep the cable under tension (put a weight on it) so that it does not unwind from the spool (or you will have to rewind it). I decided to remove the end plate to allow easy access to the end to install a new gasket. Lesson #2: Give yourself as much access as possible towards the end. After removing the old gasket, I used a cleaning spray (409 or Shout) to lubricate the gasket. I sprayed it all over the empty track as well as both edges of the gasket. After inserting a couple of legs I noticed that the end of the splint was quite sharp, so in order not to risk cutting the seal, I pulled the seal back out and used a small file to remove the sharp edges of the splint. Lesson #3: Spend a few minutes keeping the rail bore smooth to prevent the gasket from cutting or cracking. Once the gasket was inserted 4-5 feet into the rail, it was impossible to do this job alone. So instead of fighting the seal and possibly damaging it, I asked my wife for help. She went to the middle and while I was feeding the seal she kept pulling on it. When we were more than halfway through, it took me a minute to apply more lube to the gasket. Lesson #4: Plan for two people to complete this setup. The last step was to adjust the tension when closing the garage door opener. Pros: good fit and tight finish; well packed (poly bag and strong carton); neat guide. Neutral: The rubber is softer than the last gasket so you need to make sure you straighten it and pull it in rather than trying to push it into the track. Disadvantages: none.
