Review on ๐Ÿšฝ Discover the Convenience and Privacy of Catit Hooded Cat Litter Boxes by Melanie Gehrke

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for large cats or families with multiple cats.

I bought some kitty litter hoping it would make it easier to keep the litter clean. A big mistake in our household that led us to this tray. The advantages that others did not have were: 1) large flat floor area. Often floor space is limited by too many sloping sides, which is a problem if you have a cat that likes to dig a lot or deep. 2) The back of the base is higher than the front. A definite plus if you have a cat that likes to urinate sideways or standing up. 3) Relatively high lid with one-hand removal handle and very large opening with double-hinged door. When I bought it I knew I probably wouldn't leave the swing door closed, but the same feature that makes cleaning easy enough also creates a nice big opening when the door is fully folded back. Cats love it no matter how big the cat is. You're not claustrophobic or scared of a swinging door, but that still leaves little room for accidents or debris outside the box. 4) The connection between the lid and the base is well thought out. There is a small hem around the box so they come together like ship's knees, which is useful for keeping everything in the box (litter, smell, urine) regardless of your cat's habits. The lid on the door also has a thin, flat lip that helps keep dirt in the box, especially if you have a cat that likes to stand by the door and scoop out the trash. Obviously, this will not completely prevent this, but will make the task significantly more difficult. 5) This particular box is quite large compared to most boxes. They have a full sized version which is slightly smaller but probably suitable for households with one cat. I like the larger size because I've found that while cats like dens, they don't necessarily want small dens, especially in a litter box where they need enough room to turn around, burrow, etc. Bigger is better. I don't want my cat to feel uncomfortable using the litter box. For anyone complaining about the handle not being strong enough or how the locking mechanism works: the handle is not designed at all to carry the tray, let alone full of dirt. The lid can be easily removed with one hand. The locking mechanism is always a bit mediocre on trays with lids. Probably because everything is made of plastic. I wish someone could come up with something more user friendly but still economical? Sure, but until then the advice would be to make sure all the latches are in the open position. Place the lid on the bottom and make sure it's fully seated. This step is important regardless of the brand or the way the two are connected, as it's easy to think it's fully installed when it isn't. Then place one hand on the top of the lid just above the lock you want to lock. Put some weight on this spot and secure the lock with your other hand. Repeat for all four locks. If part of the lid isn't fully installed, it's literally impossible to get the locks to hold the lid down. If you find that the latch is not holding the lid down, check that the lid is fully down. If some of the locks click properly but one lock or side doesn't click, don't unlock them, try to make sure the problematic locks are open, then move the top a little until it's seated properly, try again and block them. The small weight on top helps keep everything aligned and in the right position for locking. I hope it helps.
