Review on ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Gallon Contributor by Brian Diaz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the few supplements that contains mostly omega-3 fatty acids - no added vitamins, low omega-6 fatty acids etc.

Sea sources of omega-3 fatty acids and very low omega-6 fatty acids. The sea source was important to me because it is metabolized differently. It is primarily an omega-3 supplement with a very low omega-6 content (only 10-20% from the flax source alone). I also wanted to avoid granules or more processed/extruded products for better absorption. I'm on my 2nd gallon post. He gets 2 ounces (training). My horse takes it mixed with beet pulp and feed. Feeding it is a bit messy but we just mix it up with the feeder in his coop so we don't mess up the feed bucket. I only wash his food bowl as needed, but he stays perfectly clean as he gobbles his food like he's never been fed. Here is the list of ingredients (on the back of the Contribute): Fish oil: source of EPA and DHA Flaxseed oil: source of alpha-linolenic acid. Total Omega-3 Fatty Acids: 10,780 mg per ounce. Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA): 3,210 mg per ounce. Some supplement recommendations: A study by O'Connor et al. entitled "Dietary Fish Oil Supplements Influence Serum Fatty Acid Concentrations in Horses" found that a 63-day intake of 324 mg/kg body weight fish oil was sufficient to alter fatty acid profile and blood lipid properties in horses receiving regular exercise. In practice: 324 mg/kg body weight x 500 kg horse = 162 grams (or about 7 ounces) of fish oil. Fish oil contains 10.8% EPA and 8% DHA, so the above amount provides 17.5g EPA and 13g DHA. In addition to fish oil, ground stabilized flaxseed and flaxseed oil and canola oil are other good sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Other studies have shown that 8% by weight of the diet contains flaxseed oil and 454g of flaxseed per 450kg of body weight.
