Bought for use with a 40A 14-30R which I installed on the side of my flat specifically for my VW ID.4. Since I live in an apartment I didn't want to get a permanent wallbox so I bought this portable unit. Admittedly it's only day one but I plugged it in and it ramped up to 40A pretty quickly and my car hits 35mph on charge. A big improvement over level 1 charging. I'm still learning a bit - for example when I came home later and plugged it in it only drew 5A - but it's the machine that decides what's drawn, not the charger. After some fiddling I found that it behaves differently depending on whether the car is locked or unlocked. Anyway, this has nothing to do with the charger itself, which puts out a stable 40A when the car asks for it, which was all I wanted.
