Hybrid Magic Paper/Cloth

I use this to test new patterns I've drawn before cutting a pattern pattern out of them as well. Much more durable than using cardstock or graph paper, once the fit is perfect I will be using this for my DIY template folder. Needles will mess things up over time, I prefer to use weights or staples to hold the fabric without perforating anything, but this goes beyond cardboard and draping with your fabric to get more precise cuts. I love that I can glue the paper and make small changes without having to trace, cut, staple and sew and then rip the seams and sew from the front with muslin. It bleeds through too easily, so I use different colored gel pens for sizing, margin notes, and special marks on all my pattern artwork. Somewhere between fabric and paper that drapes beautifully, it's a lot less of a hassle than going through two or more muslin models before everything fits perfectly. If you're like me, you probably want to hop onto some pretty fabric for a simple project and hate working with muslin. Try using it for embroidery paper on leather or denim if that isn't enough. You can even use it to tack strips to clothing and quickly tack fit when sewing on existing clothing. If only I had known that 15 years ago! Anyone who has a sewing machine and knows how to use it should try it. I spend less time adjusting or changing patterns and more time sewing. I just wish it was in wider rolls or printed like graph paper.
