Review on Hikity Android Bluetooth Receiver Support by Mod Kindred

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Only excellent with a few sacrifices.

PRO: Nice quality screen with satisfactory resolution and great colors, high brightness in direct sunlight is good and low brightness in low light is good. Day and night can be set in the settings. Fair touchscreen response with stunning backlit touch buttons that light up for visibility when driving at night. No visible branding! Thanks very much! Extremely light weight and slim design for more mounting options. Incredible build quality for the price. Android 9 OS with Carlinkit adapter support works almost flawlessly. 8888 is the factory unlock code to access some really interesting options in the ROM. Sound quality better than expected. Definitely better than 90 stock decks. Not the worst DAC, EQ or volume output and surprisingly compatible pre-outs for picky factory integration boxes. High quality wiring. Simple instructions. Terrible but still included rear camera that actually works. Yes indeed. They didn't have to include it at all for $110, but they did. The price is amazing for what you get. I specifically wanted unbranded and Android Auto to make it look like stock. price aside. And I got it with this device. CONS: Weak Bluetooth. It doesn't work outside of a car or with a cell phone in a fat pocket. Big crap. High level of decent Bluetooth sound quality with AVRCP. Horrible wifi. It doesn't even register until my phone's hotspot is within 10 feet. No connection up to 5 feet. I wouldn't actually transfer the data until it was in a box directly under the unit in my car, less than 6 inches from the stereo. There is no external microphone option. But the device I received had a front microphone that works. It's terrible, but you can understand a person. I couldn't believe it was actually as good as it was, but I'd love it if they didn't give us a crappy $15 rear camera and gave the option of a microphone instead. There are clones that have a microphone jack. Maybe try one of these if it's a deal breaker. I know because I bought it from another brand first and had to return it due to DOA. It had a microphone jack in the wiring harness. A very elaborately designed equalizer. I still don't get it, but I just played around with it until it sounded good. It also resets to default values sometimes. Annoying and unnecessary. The device is annoyingly slow due to the unnamed eMMC flash memory chip. It's like a slow disk tier, so installing apps and copying data is a huge pain. I only use it for Android Auto. To be honest I just wanted a screen but it was actually cheaper and better than a tablet conversion. I rarely use a head unit without an AA, so I don't care. Launcher is terrible. Download Auto Launcher or Nova. There is no bluetooth app widget so you have to go to the app to control it. Some of the other clones of this device have these software features. Doesn't change the rules of the game, but it would be really nice. After all, this is a big minus. There are inevitably many different versions of this device both in hardware and software. hard to follow. The software will become obsolete over time to the point where your data can be compromised. Nor is it known how durable these Chinese devices are with no named parts. I've never had only good experiences, but that's anecdotal and possibly unusual. It doesn't bother me and I love this device. I'll try to buy another one if I can. Final thoughts: Android Auto is where this device shines. It works and looks great. It also sounds good and is easy to work with. It was exactly what I wanted, and it just so happened to turn out to be pretty damn cheap. At first I hated turning down the big brands I've always worked with in the past, but to be honest they're all scams when you compare what you get for the money with a device like this versus the cheapest the world's same caliber made by a pioneer. . I've seen and used Pioneer's latest flagship, which costs around $800. This cheap POS is better in many ways. What exactly do you get when you buy something like this? It's hard for me to understand where your money is going to buy a big brand after seeing this Chinese thing. The build quality is objectively excellent in every respect. That puts all the big brands to shame, especially on screen.
