I removed the bottom cover and found what appears to be a smart charging circuit. There was no marking on the main chip, but given the complexity of the circuitry, I would assume that this is a full-fledged smart charger and not just timed charging. I'm using this with a Yaesu VX-170 with good results, much better than the factory wart charger. The included power supply is a 12V 1A power supply with ferrite, which is nice.
