packaging/appearance/assembly: I chose this brand/model although it was a bit more expensive due to the brand. I don't know about StarTech, but I found that they provide drivers online and also include a CD, which was a plus, especially since I lose my CDs a lot. This works wonderfully with USB 3.0. There are a few things to note: If you have USB 3.0 with external power, you don't need to use a cable (my case). If you have a portable external hard drive, you will need to use the included USB 2.0 power adapter cable (plugs into the side and into USB 2.0). but I gave up thinking I could use the extra USB port. I haven't tried connecting 2 USB 3.0 ports but I don't think there will be any problems with getting enough power as I've connected USB 3.0 and 2.0 with no problems. there is, which is probably due to normal wear and tear (my laptop stands tall) that the Express Card is slightly bent. That's probably because it sticks out about an inch and a half and the USB cable hovers a little off the ground. You can't tell it's bent, but if you lay it on a flat surface and apply some pressure you'll see what I mean. Some people have mentioned that you have trouble connecting the cable because it pushes out the ExpressCard, which is true if you don't hold the ExpressCard when you plug in the USB port. So the solution is to hold the express card while the USB port is plugged in. Usage: After installing the driver, it connects and works without any problems. Speeds will vary depending on what you're broadcasting and to what. In general, the more files you transfer (e.g. thousands of images), the slower it will be. but large files are transferred relatively quickly. Here's a quick informal test (because I don't have any testing software with me): A 325MB file took about 5 seconds, starting at a transfer rate of 110MB and ending at 65MB. Transfer speed 60MB. Speeds are variable but I am very happy with them.
