Nice tool but tricky to use when your mount is stuck

I got this for bottom bracket service but ended up messing it up a bit because the last people to service my BB before me started doing this incorrectly, lubricate the threads and tighten the bottom bracket shells. It was difficult to keep the rosette on the cup and kept wanting to pop out whenever I tried to loosen it. I ended up having to throw away the old BB and am a little hesitant to use the bushing again as it has slight damage on the outside where the old body started to snap off the teeth. I've used it to reseat and re-tighten the Hope replacement I use and it's been fine...it didn't mess up the BB cup cutouts when I tightened it to spec. I wasn't thrilled that it didn't hold up since this tool was almost $50, but it's probably aluminum so it won't damage the bottom bracket. It's just that the tool cost more than BB. I use a parking key now as it's a little easier to hold the cup's notches in place than a socketed BB cup if you have a stubborn mount. As long as you stick to actual torque specifications and not gorilla with a wrench, I'm pretty sure this tool will work well and last a long time. I also like that it's versatile with two different functions. Aside from the issue of keeping it engaged with a stubborn mount while working, I can't fault this tool.

Pros
  • handy thing
Cons
  • has imperfections
