This phone holder is one of the few air vent mounts that I have found to work very well on my BMW. most importantly, my old mount didn't. The holder is small enough not to block the entire vent and allows easy access to the door latch buttons (see photo). As for holding the phone/using the phone holder, you can hear the holder click when you lock the phone, you can rotate the phone easily, and it's easy to press the button to release it.
