Purchased as a content storage device for a laptop, with the intention of holding movies, music, and a few easy portable games. Linked never more than three times a week, and sometimes even less frequently than that. They claim that nothing should have been taken as a sign of impending catastrophe. It's true that there was an alarm bell once, but it didn't want to be identified in the system for around 8 or 9 months after the purchase, even though it was happily clicking away. The reconnection did not yield any results, so it was left alone for a few hours; after that, it started functioning normally again, which brought about peace. Then one day, as I was copying movies, it just simply hung up, and after that it stopped responding altogether, even though it was still shown in the device management. It is fortunate that the disk did not contain anything of significance. There is no longer any faith placed in Seagate. Back in service as of this writing is a Hitachi hard drive with 500 gigabytes of storage that is 10 years old and has never experienced a malfunction of any kind.
