Review on Proster 3x1 HDMI Switch with Audio Extractor: 4K HDMI Switcher, PIP IR Remote, and Audio Converter with 3.5mm to 2 RCA Cable by Brian Healy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

**UPDATE** - Now it works.

I had a lot of trouble getting this switch to work. To my credit, Proster sent me a replacement, and then when I couldn't get it to work, they sent me a standalone audio extractor. I had an audio extractor before and it worked fine except the PS3 input seemed to be off. I decided to try it directly through the extractor instead, and that wasn't a problem. I think at this point I was concerned that the problem I was having getting the Proster switches to work was being caused by the cables. I knew I'd just replaced HDMI with a PS3 and haven't tried it since, so I got the switch out after testing all the cables independently and voila, it works great. My best hypothesis is that it was caused by the HDMI cable that Proster sent with their switcher not working to properly transfer the signal from the switcher to my TV. I have to say that I now have my whole face in an egg. Anyhow, here is an overview of the actual features of this switch: Pros: - Very reasonable price for these features. - Switches audio when inputs are switched. - Comes with a remote control to switch the input. - Probably supports 4K (I haven't upgraded to a 4K TV yet so can't confirm). - 1080p outputs. I'm only mentioning this because I couldn't find it written anywhere, but it's important to know before you buy if you're like me and don't already have a 4K TV. - My experience with ProsterUS was very positive, they were very keen to solve my problem even before I left a negative review. Of course there is a small language barrier that got me thinking. Cons: - May come with cheap (free) cables. For best results, you can provide your own connections. - Uses USB cable as power source. USB chargers come in a variety of outputs and the manual doesn't specify what is required to power the HDMI switch. A regular, purpose-built power supply would take the guesswork out, although of course they would then have to come with region-specific plugs. Anyway, I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong, and I'm glad I was wrong. Time, since the operation of the switch meets my current needs and will also be easy for me when I eventually switch to 4K. So each of you has problems with this switch; Check the connections, maybe it's not in there.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
