Review on NESCO FD-37 Food Dehydrator: Preserve & Savor Culinary Delights Effortlessly! by Britney Matthews

Great car, but what a rumble.

I received one of these as a gift and had a blast making jerky, chicken strips for my dogs (good idea since the Chinese are poisoning our dogs) and dried herbs from my garden. I even wrote my own jerky recipe that friends are now asking for. I used it for a few years and the motor died. The only complaint I have is that it's loud as hell. I had to send him to my workshop in the basement to make something. A bit of a nuisance, but for $35 it's a pretty good buy. When he died I replaced him with a square Nesco FD-80 model. It's about two and a half times more expensive, but well worth it. It's a low whisper and holds a lot of stuff — six racks are about 12 inches on a side, which translates to six square feet of drying space. I also prefer temperature control. This one - FD37 - operates at a constant temperature of around 170 degrees Fahrenheit. The FD-80 has a controller that can be set from 90 to 160 / My conclusion: If you're short on cash, it's okay. If you can afford the extra expense, the FE-80 is like a Lexus dehydrator. Pros: Inexpensive. works perfectly. Enough rack space for small to medium-sized productions. Cons: Makes an insanely loud roar.
