Bought these steps to help one of my 20 lb Cavalier King Charles Spaniels get onto the couch because she has injured her back and it is difficult to jump them up. I liked them so much that I subsequently bought another 3 step window sill ladder that dogs use during the day and a set of 4 steps to help them get to the top of my bed. It only took a couple of times to show a dog how to walk up the steps and then back down. Now she uses them all the time. The other beau took more time to learn how to use them, but she eventually learned by watching her sister. I especially like that dogs can also walk down stairs so they don't have to jump down and land hard on the hardwood floor. I'm sure that the lack of these effects will benefit your joint health in the long run. The tiers are constructed fairly well, although there are some sewing imperfections in the outer covers that result in each tier not fitting perfectly (but differently). They are strong enough for my 5 year old. The old grandson liked to sit on it when he came to visit! They are not so heavy that it is difficult to move them. In fact, we now go up a 4-step ladder to our RV when traveling so dogs can climb onto the higher back bed. My only real complaint is that the floors are too slippery. They are great when placed on carpet and stay in place but tend to slide or move when placed on hardwood or vinyl floors. I was lucky enough to get them at a reduced price due to a damaged box/stock sale. I would recommend them to anyone who has small to medium sized dogs (let's say up to 45-50 pounds) that need help getting to or from furniture safely. However, people need to realize that teaching a dog to climb stairs may take patience and that some dogs learn to do this faster than others!
