This gate offers portability in the sense that it can be easily stored or taken with you when travelling. But for everyday use, it's not that convenient. We bought this gate to keep our dog away from certain parts of the house while we were working and figured we could easily move the gate from one door to another depending on who was busy that day. Since this is a daytime problem, we also wanted something that could be easily removed. That's not the gate. The main problem is that the gate cover also hides small buttons that you have to press to adjust the width of the gate, making the buttons difficult to find. The top of the gate lid also has a soft lining, which is good for things like little toddlers who don't want to hurt themselves, but not good for things like finding a tiny button. The second problem is stability. The gate is stable when there is tension, but the structure is completely weak without that wall or door support. This is more of an issue when trying to adjust the gate for different input paths, as (again, finding that knob) means you're sitting there with a wobbly gate, and it's just not a task when you're trying to start your day .
