Review on Rokinon RK50M-MFT 50mm F1.2 AS UMC High Speed Lens for Olympus & Panasonic (Black): Capture Crisp Images with Stellar Speed by James Duffield

Revainrating 4 out of 5

F1.2 fixed (optional)

This lens has become a specialty lens in our lens arsenal. I took it out of the box, set it to f1.2 and haven't touched the aperture since. It creates the most spectacular bokeh portraits at wide open apertures. Yes, sometimes it can be very difficult to catch focus (IMHO, increasing focus and highlighting is a must). But the benefits possible with this lens far outweigh the few focusing issues.—•—•— UPDATE —•—•— I quickly began to sense customer regret about this lens. For a number of reasons I decided to make the full frame Sony A7ii my primary setup and use the Sony A6000 as my secondary setup. Elite Brands (US distributor of Samyangs under the Rokinon brand) specifically informed me that due to its compact design, the 50mm f1.2 lens only works on the A7ii when the camera is used in crop mode. As painful as it was, I started thinking about selling the 50mm f1.2 and getting the 50mm f1.4 for full frame. Guess what. On a7ii it works fine. Yes, there is a very slight vignetting. But the vignetting only adds to the picture. What about the beautiful bokeh I get with the Aps-c a6000? Let's just say this lens goes from Bokelicius to Bokezilla when used on a full frame A7Ii. And yes, the lens is still wide open
