Review on πŸ’¨ AEM AEM-21-813C Cold Air Intake System: Optimize Performance with Superior Airflow by Chase Arellano

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good but with some quirks

I love this air intake, I used to have a k&n air intake and the oily filter was causing problems with the mass airflow sensor so I had to remove it and buy a new mass airflow sensor. I received this a few days ago. Installing a small ratchet with 10mm, 13mm and 15mm sockets with a few basic tools takes about 20-30 minutes. The hardest part of installing all of this is removing the PCV valve from the old intake. This requires some elbow grease. But with the right removal tool and some very strong reverses and quarters, it will eventually come loose, as it did for me. Sounds fantastic and looks fantastic. The only issue I have is that the heat shield is a bit high for a Malibu hood and creates a small gap on the intake side of the hood. I contacted aem to see if they could send me a smaller heat shield to fix. It needs to be cut off about an inch or so but I don't have anything to cut it off and make it look nice so I'm seeing what they can do. Another thing is my kit didn't have a PCV valve removal tool so I had to buy one. When buying, make sure you buy one big enough to get to the grouts inside. (You'll see what I mean if you buy one that's too small) I made the mistake of buying the first set of plastic fuel line disconnect switches I saw. You need the 5/8 I had but the plastic was too short to reach the fitting inside. So I went back and bought a longer range metal one and took it off in 10 minutes. Overall this shot is fantastic, I also bought a separate filter in case I use it in very dusty or sandy areas. I will update this review if I encounter any issues on 05/22/2020.
