Living in Florida I was surprised to learn that there are 4,000 to 5,000 lightning strikes a day in Florida alone. Fortunately, most of them don't affect anyone, but those that do are usually expensive. When lightning strikes, EMF (electromagnetic) waves are emitted even near your home, which usually propagate through all overhead and underground cables to enter your home through every entryway. Point, electric, cable, telephone or satellite dish. These shocks love low-power cords, and I've burned phones and intercoms many times. Also, the cheapest power strips require you to use a two-pronged plug to avoid a very strong ground. throw out about $50 million to protect stereos and televisions that are probably worth thousands.
