I've had it for about 8 months now and I have to say, dollar for dollar, you won't get a better, more consistent cup of coffee. It's not reliable and you'll have to do some trial and error with your stovetop and coffee beans, but now that I've figured it out, it's always great. You could get a better siphon for $300, but hey, it's a fraction of the price and almost as good. Prep: I find coffee is best when you have about 3 minutes total water contact time. That is, from the moment the ground coffee begins to move in the upper piston until the coffee is completely sucked back into the lower piston. For my stove this means about 2:15 for 5 cups and 2:45 for 3 cups counted from the first contact. , instead of leaving it from the start. I do feel that sometimes the water gets a bit too chilly when you leave the stem from the start, and you also need to keep a close eye on it to know when to start the timer. If you insert the stem later, you can do other things while the water heats up and start brewing at your leisure. Cleaning: For long-term maintenance, I recommend soaking in Puro Caff every few weeks to keep it from getting stale. Coffee taste, especially for a cotton filter. I've tried a metal strainer but it's not very good, the coffee comes out coarser and harder. Fortunately, the cotton filter leaves no aftertaste after soaking. Every day I just take out the filter and soak it in water for a few hours or until I forget to take it out. This dilutes the remaining coffee aroma for a short time and you save on cleaning chemicals. I just wash the rest of the dishes with water. The bases are sent to the composition basket. Daily cleaning takes less than a minute.
