Coffee at it's finest

I have had 3 siphon coffee makers, a Yama 8 cup, an electric Gourmia 8 cup coffee maker and the latest Yama 5 cup coffee maker. Gourmia makes a good cup of coffee, but Yama models make excellent cups of coffee. I bought 5 cups because Gourmia has expired. I normally only drink 2 cups of coffee a day and the new smaller Yama really does the job of making some absolutely wonderful coffees. It is brewed within the SCA standards of 195-205 degrees, which can be easily controlled by adjusting the…

Lots of little problems

Not as good as other vacuum pans, partly because it needs to have a flat bottom. this causes design problems that are difficult to work around. The handle may become warm due to proximity to heat. so be careful. One of the issues with the pot is that it has a large opening which is fine and necessary for cleaning but also allows you to put more pressure on the funnel which can cause it to move causing creation requires a "attachment". Rubber. Pads The rubber seal does not stay on the side of…

Use it more often than I expected

I actually got it as an experiment to see how well it works. I was so impressed that it became my signature weekend coffee pot. . . I could get a large model and use it for a week sometimes. After adding a glass rod filter (highly recommended), cleaning was very easy, nothing but glass parts. The brewing process is simpler than it sometimes seems. I preheat the water while I grind the beans, then meter the hot water into the lower chamber and set it to low heat. As soon as the upper chamber is…

Doesn't brew as well as benchtop models

My Hario Technica makes great coffee but ordering butane gas fuel has become almost impossible due to new postal regulations so I gave this model of stove a try. Unfortunately, the brew is pretty mediocre, lacking the smoothness I associate with siphon brews. I suspect it has something to do with the geometry. Instead of a relatively narrow diameter and rounded bottom, the lower carafe is wide and flat. As a result, about 6 ounces of water does not leave the bottom carafe when boiling. That's a

Great Coffee Filter

I bought this to replace the Bodum Pebo when I broke the top of this filter. The replacement part turned out to be larger than this entire coffee maker, and Yama has replacement parts that are less expensive and readily available. Pebo makes at least 6-5 oz cups which can go up to 5-4.5 oz cups which I thought was another plus. The pit was well packaged and arrived in perfect condition. The carafe's wider base means the handle stays cool and the water heats up before air pressure pushes the…

Cheapest way to get perfect coffee every time

I've had it for about 8 months now and I have to say, dollar for dollar, you won't get a better, more consistent cup of coffee. It's not reliable and you'll have to do some trial and error with your stovetop and coffee beans, but now that I've figured it out, it's always great. You could get a better siphon for $300, but hey, it's a fraction of the price and almost as good. Prep: I find coffee is best when you have about 3 minutes total water contact time. That is, from the moment the ground…

The coffee is hot and tastes good. Works as advertised.

Makes about 22 ounces of coffee or so, which I think is about the amount I would want to drink during the day. The coffee comes out pretty hot so if you like your coffee almost boiling I think you'll be happy with that. Personally, I like cool coffee and used a French Bodum press, but I was fed up with the sediment at the bottom of the cup. People say it makes a nice "light" cup. I really enjoyed my French Press and found that while I don't get any buildup with a cloth filter that a vacuum jug…
