This is a great collection of colored pencils, definitely good for art and illustration, coloring or shading. Pencils are very comfortable to use and hold and, as I said, the chopsticks are actually quite soft. I really like her. In my opinion this is not quite a starter kit. The colors included cover the entire color spectrum plus others such as black, white, brown and slate (grey). However, some basic colors are missing. The set includes, for example, "raspberry". "Red Bordeaux", "Dark Fuchsia" and "Rose Pink", but not "Red". In fact, the only primary colors were green (color A1062) and purple (A1035). They are not supplied fully pre-sharpened - the tips are still flat. I assume this is for protection during transit. Since pencils are free to slide back and forth in a can, they are more likely to break if the tips are properly sharpened. However, the pre-sharpening was inconsistent. I have attached a picture of the pens I received. You can see that the length of the pointed ends varies significantly at times.
