Replaced a modem I had rented from Comcast for the past 5 years after my Linksys router, model BEFSR41, had failed after the same time. During this time, the system worked well, although towards the end I did notice a decrease in speed. Apparently this was caused by a router that ended up failing completely. I analyzed this by removing the router from the system. To restore the system as quickly as possible, I went to Best Buy and got into a router sale. I then ordered a Linksys model BEFCMU10 modem from Revain at a discount. Both units were easy to set up and have worked great with 2 computers for the past 3-4 months. I'm not sure about the normal life expectancy of these units. To increase reliability, I stacked two units on top of each other and placed a small fan underneath to keep air circulating. Time will tell if this translates into a longer lifespan. My first Comcast modem failed after about 2.5 years and I was on my second device.
