Review on Wright Tool 3490: Unleashing the Power of the 7-1/32" Premium Double Pawl Wright-Ratchet by Damien Krzywicki

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My new favorite ratchet.

When you see this ratchet knob like many others, you think it looks like junk. That's not it. If you buy this ratchet, free up space in your bottom drawer, and throw in all your other ratchets, chances are you won't use it anymore. Seriously, I bought this because a certain part I work on a lot is so tight that a pear head ratchet can't reach it. That's how it started. Now I use this ratchet almost exclusively. Wright Tool truly has created the perfect multi-purpose ratchet. I crank it with a force that could wear out gears and snap pawls on my other ratchets, and it barely twitches. The action is smooth and consistent, loud enough to hear it working but not too loud for the neighbors to hear. If you have old Craftsman ratchets that you keep to "fly the flag," I'm sorry to say it's junk and it smokes and you still get your lucky USA stamp. Sell those old American ratchets at a flea market and buy a new ratchet made in the USA. If you have the more expensive snap-ons etc it comes close to that level of quality but at a price you can afford to abuse. Wright Tool is quickly becoming the best tool manufacturer in the USA. They may have the best combination keys in the business. They also make an ingenious 3/8 ratchet built into the 1/4 handle for very tight spaces. This is an indispensable tool.
