It's definitely not a faint noise or even a "leaf hiss" as typically stated in the supplied OEM clipart. It moves some air, but not much. I have an absurd cooling system for a giant heatsink taped to the underside of a Macbook Pro that sits on top of this thing and it barely moves enough air to dissipate the heat coming from it. Because it moves some air, not quite, it's efficient enough that I wouldn't buy anything better, but it's about as loud as MacBook fans running at 3500-4000 RPM and it's an audible background noise for an external microphone and too much noise for the internal microphone in the laptop.
