Super Impressed - Computer Speakers

I bought these for my friend's son's first gaming computer. He'll be using a headset primarily, but still wanted a nice looking set of dedicated speakers because the monitor's built-in speakers are just awful. I've heard of them and always thought they looked neat. At $30 he decided to give them a try as he will love the RGB effects and I love Phanteks as a brand. 30 dollars. Even the most basic set of plain black Logitech speakers is worth it at this price point. I came, I decided to test them to make sure they were of high quality and if it was worth returning. In short, I was amazed. First, the packaging is very pretty. A plain brown box with a Fantex logo wrapped around it. Open it up and there's a cute little instruction card inside, which is a cable box between two speakers wrapped in a plastic bag on the sides. They were securely fastened there and had a nice thick foam pad in the front to prevent damage. Very easy to install. Connect Micro USB to Micro USB between two speakers, connect USB-C cable to computer or wall, then connect 3.5 cable to computer headphone jack. All the RGB buttons are on the side and the RGB effects are simple but very well done. Much brighter than I imagined, but not overdone either. Now for the sound. I personally have a set of Bose Companion 2 speakers, which are a simple nice pair of speakers. Def wouldn't call them audiophiles and I don't care. But when I bought them, they cost about $100. I turned on Spotify and played a few songs. Did the same with these Phanteks speakers. They played the same song next to each other. My Bose speakers were definitely cleaner and crisper, but the Phanteks actually had a solid little bass punch, more so than mine. Not as crisp, but definitely WAY better than a $30 set should sound. Started playing some video clips and same offer as the music. The sound quality is amazing for $30. In terms of build quality, they're plastic, but they're not cheap, flimsy plastic. It's a nice thick solid black case with a mesh front for the speaker. They're lightweight, but offer enough weight to feel premium. It has 4 small rubber feet on the bottom to prevent slipping. They're small and compact, and won't take up much room on your desk (or in your bag if you plan to use them as portable travel speakers). I've only had it for 2 hours so I can't comment on durability yet. But for $30 if they last a year I'd be happy. Although I'm sure they will last a lot longer as long as they aren't treated terribly. Only 2 complaints and they are picky. First, the wires in the kit are pretty short. I would say 2-3 feet max. If you have a two or three monitor setup and want to place them at the ends, the cable connecting the speakers may not be long enough. Depending on where the port speaker is in relation to the computer, the 3.5 power might not be enough either. But all 3 cables are very cheap and readily available, so a longer set can be purchased for less than $10. Another thing is that they just don't work well when laying on their side. Thanks to the smooth plastic body and lightweight design, they slide and move very easily. I personally like to place the speakers to the side under the monitors and just don't see the option unless you add your own cheap little rubber feet. Find a cheaper pair of speakers than these. The sound is great, the looks and lighting are amazing and thin it doesn't feel flimsy and cheap. I've had several budget speakers from Logitech and other brands in the past and they've never been more impressive to me than these.
