I just assembled my knife block and I love it. The pre-drilled screw holes lined up perfectly with the finished product and it was easy to attach the base to the magnet block. I'm probably more than impressed that they included a Phillips head screwdriver in the kit. My knife block has nice wood grain color variations for nice visual interest. The wood is sanded smooth so you don't have to worry about splinters and it doesn't polish at all. I think I'll oil the stock a bit to improve the finish, but that's my personal preference. I definitely recommend this product. The smaller footprint compared to a traditional knife block is fantastic and really brings out the beauty of my Japanese knife set. It holds all my kitchen knives well and is still easy to grip. Note: pushing the knife up works smoother than pulling the knife out horizontally - yes ;) Anyway, if you have any doubts about making this purchase I'd say go for it. It seems sturdy enough for the task and is a much more attractive option than your grandma's old knife block.
