Review on Oral B Glide Pro Health Original Floss by Angela Hernandez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great floss at a reasonable price

I love Glide floss because I can and do use it. This rating applies equally to individual packs, but you get just over 218 yards of total thread in four 54.7 yard (50 meter) packs. Glide used to do a 100m pack but I haven't seen that lately. Single packs are usually just under $4, so it's not a big deal. I grew up with a rival thread that was nothing more than a glorified cotton thread. It was thick but prone to breakage. I've tried waxed dental floss but it's disgusting: the wax scrapes off the teeth and gives the impression that the growth has increased, not decreased! My dentist gave me a sample of Glide 15 years ago (when it was still the Gore-Tex brand) and I've loved it ever since. It slides easily between the teeth and leaves almost no plaque (despite the fact that the white plaque comes off). The fiber has broken from use exactly 4 times in the last 10 years (yes, this is so rare that I remember when it happens). Another dentist warned me that Glide isn't the best floss on the market and said it doesn't do a good job of removing food/bacteria/plaque. He recommended one of the waxes. Just know I won't be using this thread, but I will be using this glide. Since it's a real choice and using Glide is better than nothing, I'm sticking with Glide. I know this is smart work because my gums are much healthier according to dentists who pierce the gums in 3 places around each tooth. Blood and pain indicate swelling due to gum disease. I have less blood, less pain and therefore less gum disease. Other things to note: 1. This material isn't as biodegradable as regular filament - from what I understand it's mostly plastic, much like the non-stick coating you get. certain utensils. This means that it appears to be fairly harmless and there shouldn't be many long-term health risks, but it shouldn't be washed off; better throw it in the trash. 2, Glide (now owned by Crest I think) has released many other flavors. I usually buy mint, although I can't taste mint because I've just brushed my teeth - it's not very strong. In my experience, "comfortable" is thicker and more prone to breakage/crushing. Plus, you only get four-fifths the amount in each small package. On the other hand, a (different) dentist recommended it and said it was better at removing dirt, but again I found it a lot less comfortable to use and couldn't wait to switch back to the regular Glide. Now if only they could make it cheaper and fully biodegradable I would give it five stars!
