Review on Nikon 16663 PROSTAFF 1000I by Gavin Dunne

I thought the PROSTAFF 1000 was a replacement for the AL11. It is not. Not even close. PROSTAFF 1000 is cheaply made and only shows whole meters. If accuracy matters, pass this device on. If you're expecting Nikon build quality, don't buy this device. Under ideal conditions of use (a clear, bright, sunny day) it works well at close range. UPDATE: January 2021 As I learned above, this is not a high accuracy instrument, but I assumed it would still be accurate. Unfortunately, this turned out to be wrong. Even at short distances - 18-50 m - Prostaff 1000 is 4 m behind 18 m and the error increases from there. This is a ranking of bright, reflective targets against a clear background. It's a cute toy, it's not a tool or an indicator of the quality I used to associate with the Nikon name.
