I bought this gas detector because we are all so tired and have had gas leaks from the furnace in the past and also a dryer valve in the basement. Note that sometimes there can be a leak at the stove and/or gas line connections. As well as a dryer and/or connection. After inserting the batteries, it was ready to use. So I checked all areas and nothing. Everything showed no gas. Great BUT how could I be sure it works. So I turned on the oven and opened it up with the detector closed and it worked. Because you will always have some raw gas smell. I also got to a friend's house that she didn't notice the smell I was noticing and was sure gas was leaking from her oven. I wanted the best, but I can't afford the best. That means some of them are made for people who work with gas etc but this device worked for me. That's all I needed. Everyone should have 1 nearby as a gas leak can occur at any time. I now check monthly as usual unless I suspect a gas leak. It's convenient, simple and works.
