Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as intended but room for improvement

I've only had it a few days and it seems to be working as advertised. My cheap laptop can now connect to the 5GHz band from my dual band WiFi router, not just the 2.5GHz band, and I'm seeing a significant increase in throughput to/from my laptop. That's what I wanted and the device works. There are two notable points that lead to this product getting 4 instead of 5 stars from me. First, the installation and software for the device is a bit clunky. Software (for my Windows 10 laptop at least) must be installed from a disc, not plug and play. And once installed, the software looks a bit rudimentary. It works, but words like "seamless" and "elegant" don't exactly come to mind when you use them. I feel like once the device is installed I shouldn't even see the software, but it's a bit more intrusive than I'd like. The second issue is related to the blinking blue LED that is part of the device. It's a very small light and I hardly noticed it when I first used it. But when I turned off the light and went to bed, I realized I now have a mini flash in my bedroom. The tiny blue light flashes more or less continuously whether the computer is in use or not, and the flashing light was very noticeable on the ceiling when my wife and I were trying to sleep. Of course, simply unplugging the adapter from the computer before bed would fix the problem. Instead, I decided to put a small piece of black tape over the top of the lantern, which isn't an elegant solution, but it works.
