Easy installation, very fast

My Windows 10 laptop's built-in 2.4G adapter is broken. I was planning on replacing the card with 5G but saw this and decided to give it a try for an easier setup. It was recognized by Windows and worked as soon as I plugged it in, but I installed from the CD that came with it and also downloaded an updated driver from the internet. It's significantly faster than the old card. I also received an email from the supplier stating if I needed assistance. So far I am a very satisfied customer.

Completely dissatisfied with the product

I followed the instructions exactly. And it connected first, but the signal was very weak, and even pulling the computer tower out from under the table, I could actually find the signal. Then it wouldn't let me login with my own router's name! Also not by hand. She said there is a problem with the network, but the network is fine. I didn't even load my own connection program, it froze. So I had to delete it and download it again. Then it didn't work at all! Dissatisfied

Works on Lubuntu/Ubuntu distribution (32-bit)

It took a while to get it working, mainly due to the poor documentation on the CD that came with the USB wireless adapter. The instructions for Linux systems are misleading and outdated. According to research, this device requires drivers for RTL8811CU/RTL21CU which are not included with the device for Linux systems. With a quick search you will quickly find suitable drivers and installation instructions. Be sure to reboot for the changes to take effect. This device currently works properly on…

Second update: the second device also failed. Upgrade back to one star (I assume this will work for at least a year!). Update: Blueshadow fixed the problem and sent me a new module. So far (three days) I haven't had any problems and it works without any problems. For now I'm changing my rating to three stars. I'm a little wary as the first unit only lasted a day or two, but if I still have no problem getting a replacement I intend to add another star in three months. Initial rating: 1 star, the

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • I don't remember, but something happened

The product arrived quickly and without problems. The product worked the moment I plugged it in and I would like to advise those who don't know that the drivers that come with this product are not needed if you have Windows 10. I have no complaints either. A device is what it says and does what it claims to do. I've had no fancy popups or malware, no connection issues, even after weeks of ownership. If you can afford it, PCI Express will likely give you the best speed and reliability, but it…

A piece of junk! good for usb network adapter

Installed this dongle following pathetic instructions (numerous typos and links to pages with drivers riddled with security threats (according to my Bitdefender Antivirus) After completing the installation of additional software (understand don't know why the key doesn't just use Windows 10 drivers and management), the Realtek software kept disconnecting the adapter so I couldn't even see a wireless network to connect to! and reinstalling the software, 2) Using the native Windows 10…

Troubleshooting connection issues with Lenovo 5GHz laptop

So I have a Lenovo e545 laptop. Lenovo has a nasty habit of "whitelisting" its add-on cards, which means adding a special code to the PCI ID so the BIOS won't boot if it doesn't contain the Lenovo code. How can I find out? I just moved to the Comcast area and got a 60Mbps modem. The standard single channel card in Lenovo only works at 2.4 GHz. That means my download speed is 0.43Mbps! So I buy a dual band card from Amazon for $14.99. I plug it into the laptop, it dies while loading (see above).

Works as intended but room for improvement

I've only had it a few days and it seems to be working as advertised. My cheap laptop can now connect to the 5GHz band from my dual band WiFi router, not just the 2.5GHz band, and I'm seeing a significant increase in throughput to/from my laptop. That's what I wanted and the device works. There are two notable points that lead to this product getting 4 instead of 5 stars from me. First, the installation and software for the device is a bit clunky. Software (for my Windows 10 laptop at least)…
