I have been working on field projects with these units for several years and I have to say they are very poor. When they first appeared they might have been able to compete with other GPS navigators, but now (2014) they seem extremely outdated. If you are in the forest, forget about receiving a signal. In order for them to work reliably, you must have a perfectly clear view of the sky (I've used half a dozen, and that goes for all of them). The screen often becomes fragmented or freezes, making navigating to a waypoint with the arrow extremely difficult. Even if the screen works, it's difficult to see it. The strap on the case usually breaks, which can be serious (I wore it around my neck once and lost the device before realizing the strap snapped). The connection cable uses a 9-pin serial port (!), not USB, so good luck finding a laptop that supports this connection (you'll most likely need a 9-pin to USB adapter). Finally, the battery life is terrible, probably because the device loses satellite lock so easily. In short, avoid this piece of junk at all costs.
