Review on πŸ’Ž Stay-Brite STAR2000 SBSK Silver Solder 3/64, 1/2 oz"+ by John Ghattamaraju

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great river! Good lot!

Overall product 5 stars but personally I give flux 5 stars and the solder itself 4 stars. The solder itself is good and as advertised, but for me it didn't flow or soak into the fluxed areas as well as other silver solders I've used (both low and high silver). Possibly because the solder is a high strength silver solder. Now for the flux. WOW. Cleans the metal really well and absorbs the wicks well into the joint giving a great grip. An ideal material for joining difficult-to-solder metals such as B. for joining copper to stainless steel, stainless steel to stainless steel etc. I've joined copper to stainless steel for some work and have joined stainless steel to stainless steel just for learning purposes. Flux is a really good material, just make sure, like any flux, you don't burn it when heating it. If you do, simply clean the surface with a damp cloth to cool (wear heat resistant gloves), scrape off any burnt flux, then reflux and start over. As a liquid flux it makes a big difference to the pasty flux that some are used to, so don't spray it everywhere, by the way. Also pay attention to skin contact, the flux contains acid and other skin-irritating substances. It is recommended that disposable protective gloves be worn when applying flux to the fittings as one hand will likely need to touch the flux and/or the flux fitting at some point while installing the soldered parts.

Pros
  • Solder and Flux
Cons
  • Not as thick as the others
