The device is good, sorry for the batteries

I tried the thermometer and it works well. My wife and I got exactly the same temperature, which is either good or unusual. I am not sure. How many years, however, sealed batteries are DOA. I thought maybe the device wasn't working, but the Duracells turned it on right away. It was supposed to be an "updated" product, but maybe it was a long time ago?
