Let me say good build quality first. It has a nice solid feel. I had other refractometers that looked almost like toys. The real test, however, is how it works. It's easy to calibrate. It comes with a small bottle of diopter oil and a polished glass reference block. Following clear, well-written instructions, I calibrated the instrument in minutes.2. It seems pretty accurate. I know many beekeepers buy it to test their honey, but I use it to measure sugar levels in fruits and moisture levels in jams to ensure consistent results from batch to batch when making different jams during the season and make jellies. Immediately after unpacking and calibrating the refractometer, I made a few pots of strawberry jam and tested the batch as I went. The tool worked as expected.3. It's easy to focus. I can use it with or without glasses as the focus range is more than adequate.4. It's easy to clean. The kit comes with a small cleaning cloth which is quite thin, non-absorbent and unusable, but a good soft cotton or microfiber cloth will clean the test material perfectly.
