I have mixed opinions on this gate. It's easy to install, just make sure you use long screws to at least screw it into the wall stud. The gate is easily removed by releasing the latch, simply lift and fold to one side. You may need to put a rubber stopper on the doorknob so it doesn't damage the wall it's pressed against. This gate replaced the same but slightly shorter due to dog play and rod breakage - lasted 18 years with kids and dogs so quite a good life. Now we mainly use it to keep the dogs up when the company comes. Large Dogs - 65 to 95 pounds. The dogs nudge him but mostly leave him alone. My biggest concern is that he will support the child for too long or the dog will attack him. If the pole breaks it can also create a puncture hazard for a dog/child who could try to squeeze the sharp half of the pole protruding from the broken pole. I would like it in an aluminum light version. I've tried metal but my opening top isn't perfectly square allowing the gate to hinge and line up with the latch. The latch is easy to operate with one hand and is fast. Even the metal ones seem to have plastic clasps or are difficult to open with one hand. Be sure to consider the height of the gate, the height of the baseboard and, if the railing is an obstacle, the position of the posts on the wall for installation. The gate can swing either way, or you can install the included gate stop. An installation tip: you can use a small thin piece of plywood behind the hinges so the bracket doesn't cut into the drywall and damage it like my last one did. Use the included mounting bracket template and spirit level to ensure the template is vertical. I first installed the hinges, installed the gate and then installed the latches on the gate making sure I drilled the holes in the right place and leveled the top of the gate as when the gate is detached it will come out slightly from the level moves . So when you lock the gate you have to lift it up a bit and then it looks straight when locked. Good functional and easy to use gate, metal version is needed. The wood appears to be pure pine and can be stained/stained if desired.
