Good so far - network products

First impression after just starting up in the last 24 hours to replace the ISP provided equipment with the firmware that unexpectedly captured the traffic, good with some exceptions. Firstly, I am what most helpdesk managers call a power user and a nightmare as I have high expectations and demands. I read reviews complaining about the setup of the MotoManage app, so I was concerned about the initial setup. I didn't find it nearly as bad as reported. I've found that it's best to power cycle the modem (Motorola MB8600) before setting up the router, and the satellite device worked best after powering on and flashing a blue logo before entering the QR code scan to add it to the network. The rest of the installation went smoothly. I used to set up different SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5GHz bands, so I set up the main WiFi with my 5GHz SSID, which was already being used by most devices, and then the guest WiFi set up as my old 2.4GHz SSID. Since there were fewer devices, I could then go back and reconfigure them to use the main Wi-Fi SSID later. I'm using a Raspberry Pi 3B with PiHole for DNS and DHCP on my network, so I had to remove the hardware provided by the ISP. I've found that I have no problem disabling DHCP through the configuration manager and allowing PiHole to handle the required services. Trying to do this with ISP provided equipment was a big failure! The mesh network has already proven to be much more reliable and stable than the old Netgear Wi-Fi range extender and ISP-provided Wi-Fi router. Moving between hotspots around the house is not a problem, and in fact devices using a satellite device generally show much stronger signals and more reliable connections. The downside so far has been that the device doesn't seem to accept the IPv6 address assignment provided by the ISP. . I verified it's not an ISP by plugging the laptop directly into the modem and got an IPv6 address with no problem. other reviews, in a word support. I spent over 2 hours making multiple calls as the connection dropped to speak to a technician. Just as I broke down to file a support ticket and waited up to 24 hours to hear back, I contacted the tech. Despite the delays in speaking to anyone as the IVR initially told me my wait time would be between 7 and 11 minutes on all my call attempts, the technician was very knowledgeable and understood the issue I was raising. Finally, at the end of the call, he was unable to resolve the issue because the team he was trying to escalate it to had left. He took the ticket I opened, attached it to the call, checked it and told me to expect an answer after the weekend. Later I shall have to inform you how this is done. The other issue I've found is that there doesn't seem to be a way in the router to allow ICMP PING of the WAN interface, meaning the ISP can't confirm via normal monitoring telemetry that the router is online, even though they can see it can get the mac address through ip address lease requests via dhcp. In this respect, the firewall setup for a network device appears very immature. This caused me to possibly reconsider taking the system back and instead buying WiFi access points and using my old Cisco ASA 5506-X firewall as a router, which I know does IPv6 address assignment and DHCPv6 Prefix delegation takes over. Update March 29th: After working with Motorola support for over a week, their engineers finally came back and told me that the MH702x does not support IPv6 at all, although IPv6 configuration options are available in the configuration manager. The actual firmware code is very similar to the old Microsoft NT 4.0 network configuration options, which did nothing. I will try to return the device and replace it with another tri-band mesh router.
