We have a miniature Schnauzer weighing 11 pounds and we live in an apartment building. I opened the package, put the batteries in one of them and placed it in the corner of the front door. She never barked the whole time and we didn't make any loud noises in the house, the red light didn't come on at all. After 5-10 minutes after switching on, she went away and hid under the bed in our bedroom and did not come out. This device should make a sound even when the red light is off. I disassembled it and put it back in the box and will be sending it back. The correction does not need to be on all the time and could potentially be detrimental to your dog's mental health.
