Review on Summer Infant Decorative Pressure Mounted by Jessica West

Revainrating 1 out of 5

I will say that the overall style and look of the gate is great. However

My rating is based on owning this product and using it daily for the last 6 weeks. I will say that the overall style and look of the gate is great. However, I bought two of these gates to separate our living room as our twins are traveling. The first gate I installed I noticed that the wooden door was a bit warped. However, it opened, closed and still functioned as intended. The next gate I installed was so warped that when the handle was locked the locking device on the underside would not even come close to leveling. I traded this gate to Revane for a new one. The new gates that arrived were warped even worse as there was a huge bend from the top to the bottom of the door. However, the locking mechanism on the handle and on the bottom of the gate is coordinated, so it is functional. The warped doors were a little disappointing but I could live with that. Fast forward a few weeks into possession and the goal is an absolute nightmare. The problem is a design flaw. Opposite the handle is a pin on which the door pivots/hinges. Basically, the latch rotates inside the metal frame as you open and close the gate. The problem is that when using the gate you also have to lift the gate about 1 inch to release the bottom latch from the metal frame and then the door falls once centered over the metal frame and latches to the bottom. When lifting by the handle, apply lateral pressure to this pivot pin. The metal frame digs into the shutter, it gets worse over time. A simple little collar around the bolt to keep the metal from cutting into it would solve the problem. My gate is now almost impossible to lift and open unless you lift it from the center point of the gate (by removing all pressure on the bolt/hinge). This is pointless as I often have a child in one hand when using the gate and try to open/close the gate with my free hand. If you always have two hands to open/close the gate, it doesn't matter. Overall this is a good product in concept and style, however the functionality was poorly designed or the manufacturer was trying to save a few pennies.
