Well done but no front protection

Most likely you are reading this review because you recently broke or bruised a rib and are trying to assess your skills. I recently fractured a rib playing basketball and wanted to better protect the healing crack before returning to the game. I ordered 4 soft shirts but in the end I chose a handmade rug. I felt Shock Doctor was the best shirt overall as it offered the softest coverage, particularly the front of the ribs which the other three options inexplicably didn't cover (that's where my tear was). The next best cover was NGNW. As you can see from the photos, the Zicac jersey's padding is too low, too many ribs are missing. The McDavid was the smoothest and tightest option, but it didn't protect me where I needed it. It is best to order multiple shirts and try them all on at once as every body type is different and you may have a preference for fit and each shirt will affect your mobility differently. I chose another option as I felt the shirts were distracting when shooting - if you plan on using it long term, you just need to get used to it. Instead, I used flexible kinesiology tape to tape a 4" x 6" section of Blue Camp's closed-cell foam sleeping pad to my ribs. It held up great and wasn't bothersome at all, protecting the cracked area of a mostly healed rib. I will continue to do this until I fully recover and am mentally prepared to remain unsafe.

Pros
  • A lot of positive emotions
Cons
  • fade away
