Circonus is an excellent tool for monitoring and analyzing any number of different data streams from various sources. Unfortunately, this is where it stops being a great tool for me. While their pricing model is attractive (you get a discount if you purchase more than 2 months in advance), the actual cost is high and I would estimate $1,000/month to be fairly typical. For my use case, it was simply too expensive and required too much manual intervention to maintain a useful level of coverage. I would recommend that other organizations test Circonus first before purchasing. I tried it for three months and did not see enough value to justify the price tag. I ended up using a combination of Nagios, Graphite, Ganglia, and Logstash. In fact, my primary use of Circonus was to track disk space usage and determine if I should buy another hard drive.
