I was so excited to get this habitat for my hamster. I was paying attention to the tracking while it was being shipped to me. You can imagine my disappointment when I finish putting it together. The material: This habitat is made out of pine. One of the cheapest wood materials out on the market. While its made to look like its for the outdoors, I do not recommend you do as Pine will grey out when exposed to the weather. Also Hamsters are non-native to the USA so they are not outdoor pets. The craftsmanship: I am a joiner by trade. I can tell this whole unit was produced by machinery, as it should but the measurements and craftsmanship are utterly garbage.- Poor superstructure . There is no frame at all. The whole unit is held together by the sidings only.- Gaps in the base. Gaps in base is going to allow for the substrate/shavings to fall out and get stuck under the trey. Also the corner have gaps as well. This is due to real poor precision work.- Front. The trey is not flush since there is no base and the door just dead hangs in place.- The ramp on the left side will tear off as it rest solemnly on the trey.Assembly: The instructions graphics are super vague and do not always match up to the actual component. The assembly itself requires wood assembly knowledge to avoid slipping the wood or breaking the thin pieces. Pine is such a light material that its density is very little. So its very weak and will break easily. Some of the screw emplacements are not pre-drilled so you will need to inspect each piece thoroughly. During assembly, I notice quite a bit of tension and some of the components are not flush with one another. This means you will need to sand the excess off unless you want splinters. The plastic on the windows is buried in the groves so you have to peel it ALL off or you pet can eat it and die.Toys: The toys and extra stuff that came with it are redundant and simply there to increase sales. Do not use that as a factor for this habitat.I am not impressed with this product. Its not at all worth the price as it is pine, poor craftsmanship and terrible assembly process. The only reason why I am keeping this product is because I am going to improve and fix the flaws. While this was supposed to be a new cozy home for my buddy, it will first be a pet project. Pun intended.Update: the hamster chewed a hole in the habitat. I had to install a plastic rail to cover it up. This habitat is not hamster friendly.Update as of 5/5: The wiring on the top came apart. the panels on the back are warping. The hamsters chewed a hole through the bottom of the habitat. They escape and I had to patch it up. This was after they ate the wiring of my fridge. This habitat is going to be replaced this week and will become firewood shortly.
