I had old VHS and hi-8 videos to transfer to a digital file. I hooked my VCR and camcorder to the device and it worked. I was able to transfer all my videos to a digital file. The digital file was universal for all of my video editing software (I toggle between Animoto, MovieMaker, and Adobe Premiere- all software read the digital files). It was easy to use. I'm not a video editing professional, I'm a Mom transferring old videos.
