Review on Hatch Huggers: Secure Car Rack Mounting Straps by Saris - Essential Bike Rack Accessory by Justin Woolley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great for me.

I'm not struggling with the tailgate, I'm struggling with the trunk seam gap. I tried 3 bike bones a few years ago but couldn't get the center/side mounts to work in the trunk seams without buckling or buckling the decklid wherever they were. The top and bottom anchors were fine, but the side anchors would not move without power/damage. Not sure if they had them back then but wow they definitely work for me on two bike bones now. With the trunk slightly open, I install the top anchors on the trunk lid, with the rack itself sitting slightly on top. I then undo the "Huggers" side strap and drop one into the trunk along each edge of the trunk lid, then I move on and match the bottom anchors to the bottom edge of the trunk at the bumper. At this point I closed the trunk. After making sure the huggers have enough slack to accommodate the movement without getting out of the trunk, I lift the lid slightly and shut it tight. I tighten the "hugger" strap to hold the block firmly against the inside of the lid, tighten the buckle, and you're done. Everything seals tight and the stand is rock solid. I couldn't use this rack, or maybe any rack without it. Hope that helps!

Pros
  • A pair of Saris bike carrier straps
Cons
  • No automatic
