Makes it safe, although not by much. Too short!
Finger holes drilled at odd angles. Arrived slightly bent (not the shipper's fault) as they were clearly made with a slight bend. I think to try to open and close them a little harder. Great idea but poor execution in QC. The metal parts are held together with three tiny spot welds. I suspect this product will not last a lifetime. But what can you expect for this price? At least one set of forks came out of the handle. Don't worry about the leather strap. An inch or so at most. I know what an inch looks like. In any case.
