I bought these to remove the retaining ring on my fuel pump as brass (no spark) is required. Worked to a minimum. The retaining ring required a $100+ special tool (I modified a similar $35 tool and it worked). Other people have used them in my situation with no problems and they are very safe. The next use would be when you hit something you don't want to mark. The idea is that the punch is softer than the blank. For example. Hit the end of the shaft without turning it into a mushroom.
