Ideal calipers.

Failed to load media. I noticed that this cool looking caliper had some pretty bad reviews. And very good reviews. I decided to give it a try and I think I did pretty well. This thing arrived today, April 22, 2021. I'm not a locksmith or anything so I tried to make a video to help you all. I think the bad reviews were just unfortunate, or maybe even an application error, because mine seems very good at $36. I know nothing about calipers, but my old digital calipers were buggy and I was tired of resetting them before every measurement. I just didn't trust him enough not to do it. And that's how I got this and I think it's great. It's mechanical, so the measurement can't be wrong. Plus it just feels cooler. I loosened the two set screws on the top to loosen the slide a bit. It wasn't too tight, but I prefer it when it's loose. Haven't noticed any difference in performance. If I contributed a bit of crap I can't say and I don't care. That's more than accurate enough. As you can see in the video, it aligns to zero very reliably. I measured the 16mm Miutoyo gauge block, the 2" side of the 123 block and the side of the mini anvil. Holding calipers perfectly can be tricky. The slightest angle or twist can confuse them. And having the phone in my face didn't help, but I think I did it well enough for you to see it's safe. The jaws are perfectly flat and parallel. If I hadn't known there were gears in there I would never have guessed. I don't feel or hear them. I bet the gears are pretty complex too. Something else. The wheel is very smooth. Cons: The lens is plastic. I'm not sure how to analyze it. You must watch the video on YouTube. In general I am very satisfied. I'm sure a pro should skip this and pay two or three hundred, but it's so awesome for me to have such a cool looking and accurate tool. I say they are much better than digital ones. No fuss, no hassle, just measure, just like a ruler. I'll definitely update if anything happens. Many Thanks. Update: I've played around with it a lot and become familiar with it. I removed the battery from my digital and put it away. I compared them to digital measuring probes and various objects. It can measure to a thousandth of an inch. It measures cigarette cellophane with an accuracy of one thousandth. And if you increase the light to 0.001 or even 0.0005 when open, you can see the colors of the rainbow come through and the slit is perfectly parallel. It is very well made. I watched a youtube video on how to disassemble and you just remove the top panel. Then remove the arms and face and there will be screws. I didn't go beyond removing the frame. There is a beveled white ring holding the front. It was tight enough to be secure but not difficult to remove. There was a Miutoyo in one of the videos and it even had a plastic lens so I guess it's ok! It shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement if it ever breaks. The depth measurement appears to be accurate. Long review but I think it's worth it because $36 calipers that good are amazing. I'll take care of him like he's worth $200. Common sense dictates that Miutoyo or Starett would be better, but to be honest I don't know what they could be. I'm sure steel polishes better, but otherwise? I do not know. They may look and feel smoother, but it's clear that modern manufacturing has reached the point where quality precision calipers are available to everyone. Pretty impressive. So I recommend trying them out before investing hundreds of dollars in well-known brands with a solid reputation. Many Thanks.
