Kat is back! fits watch

I have had a Kit Kat watch for over 20 years. I think the models have changed over time since they were full size watches, but they ran on a single AA battery and not two C cells as is now described for this size. The backplate was stamped "Model B1". Minor adjustments + cleaning were needed from time to time to keep it working. The company was exceptional with tips and sharing. It would still be hanging on my wall if I hadn't forgotten the rules and set the time clockwise, which would damage the work as the instructions warned. I can only blame myself for the kit-kat karma that follows. I was thinking of replacing it with a 3/4 clock as I didn't want to use heavy C cells. But maybe someone misunderstood my order or they were out of stock because I got a larger model instead (stamped "Model B2" and marked Kit-Cat, not Kitty-Cat). I assembled it with C cells and followed the instructions in the letter. Heavier batteries seem to provide "ballast", which turned out to be a plus. I hung them on the wall in place of their predecessors and they immediately started rolling their eyes and wagging their tails! After reading some of the negative comments (thin plastic, looks cheap, flimsy, etc.) I feel compelled to add a few words in defense of this charming watch. . While not for everyone, it is an exact replica of those made in the 1930's. They were sold during the Great Depression to people who couldn't afford luxury and were not intended for the elite class in the modern sense of the word. They had to be practical and put a smile on the face of a population going through the worst time in history. Yes, they are a bit fragile and require a little care. I don't find plastic particularly flimsy, and I don't understand why people think it needs to be heavy or more durable in order to do its job (i.e. hang on the wall, keep track of time and improve mood). I appreciate iconic pieces from eras gone by and when it comes to reproductions I would prefer that they are as close to the original as possible (at least the parts that I can see) so I might be more willing to accept that others maybe not accept it . I love this clock and I can't imagine my kitchen without it.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Can take damage
